IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE A FLUFFY CAKE WITHOUT EGGS?

Has anyone out there had any luck making a fluffy light and moist cake without eggs? any clue as to what i could substitute? would applesauce work or silken tofu??? any help would be sooo appreciated!

LEMON SQUARES

8 ozs flour 8 ozs butter 4 ozs powdered sugar

Filling: 4 eggs 8 ozs sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 5 Tbsp. lemon juice dash of salt sifted powdered sugar -- extra

Sift flour and sugar into bowl. Blend in butter until well mixed. Pat evenly into bottom of large baking pan. Bake at 350 *F for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, beat together eggs, sugar, baking powder, lemon juice and salt. Pour over the baked crust and return to oven for another 20 to 25 minutes. Cool. Cut into squares. Sprinkle with the extra powdered sugar.
