Cake Decorating

I've recently begun cake decorating and have an excellent "Perfect Whipped Creme Icing", however while trying to frost the cake and pipe decorations the whipped creme begins to soften and not hold it's shape. Maybe it's not so "Perfect" after all. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can prevent the whipped creme from going soft too quickly. I've tried beating it to medium and to stiff peaks but neither seems to help. Help Me!!!
