Quite a feat for a first-timer. You will have no problem keeping the cake moist, as long as you start with a cake that is moist. The filling and icing helps to retain the moisture in the cake. If you're really worried, brush a syrup on the layers when you fill them. Remember to use a filling that is not easily perishable, or that will collapse quickly, if you do intend to spend a lot of time working on it at room temp. That means no delicate mousses or whipped cream. Go for a sturdy buttercream, marmalade, or ganache- type filling instead. You can probably do a lot of the finishing details beforehand.
