I am wanting to make a dome shaped barbi doll birthday cake for my daughters 3rd birthday. You know, the kind that actually has the barbi standing up in/on top of the cake? I'm unsure of what kind of bowl, measuring cup and how much batter and how long to actually cook it to get it done. What ever help you could send I would appreciate it soooo much. Thank you.

You will need 3 8" round cakes. Layer the first two with a little frosting in between the layers. Take the third 8" cake and cut off a 1" piece all around the outside edge (kind of like peeling an orange with just one slit). Stack the inside piece on top of the other two and then take that 1" piece, roll it together, like a swirl, and place it on top. This will give you "4" layers (with frosting in between each. Then frost the entire cake with just enough frosting to lightly cover and shape the skirt. (Don't worry if the cake shows through because when you put ruffles on it will cover.) After lightly frosting the cake take a serated knife and cut a hole down through the center just large enough to put the Barbie in. Put the Barbie in the cake and complete your design. This method will allow you to use a regular sized Barbie instead of just a doll pick.

If you use a 3 Quart crockery bowl and 2 cake mixes...you can level it before you flip it over onto your platter and then stick your doll into the center....It's alot less wasteful and less work and mess than the previous suggestion....good luck!

Personally, I would use a Bundt pan for the cake. Then I would use a poured Fondant to cover it, then overpipe along the pan design, incorporating it into the overall effect. Maybe some lace frill on the bottom.
Looking at the date, I hope your daughter's birthday is in July.

I purchased a glass classic mixing bowl from pampered chef. I used it to make this cake. I used one cake mix and purchased the half of Barbi doll from a craft store. After baking the cake, you just flip it over and it is the perfect shape for the dress. the barbie just goes through the top and then you decorate her to match the cake.

The regular Wilton doll skirt pan made specifically for this purpose is the best pan to use. I just buy a blonde Barbie type doll at the dollar store for $1.00. I also save out about a half cup of the batter and if one side of the cake rose more than the other I pour the saved batter on that side and cook it for another few minutes so it will be even. You can also use another half cake mix and bake a 9" round cake and it fits under the doll cake to make it tall enough to put the whole doll in.
