Sorry, I don't know what it is called in your area, but it's meal ground from corn. Similar to what's used for polenta or corn tortilla. |

Not so, brother Arnold. Masa Harina is used for tortillas and it is much finer than cornmeal. Anne, Cornmeal is just coarse ground maize, or Indian corn. If you have arecipe calling for it, you will find that polenta makes an adequate, yet more expensive, substitute. My favorite way of using it is in Cornbread. This is a simple quickbread for which there are numerous recipes on this site. What is your interest in the subject? Good luck. |

Another request: what would be the name of cornmeal and shortening in an Australian recipe?
